Beth Hamon
The daughter of nightclub musicians, Beth Hamon is a creative force whose songs straddle the fuzzy line between Jewish and secular themes of social justice, hope, renewal and love. Based in Portland, Oregon, she tours as an artist- and educator-in-residence and cantorial soloist at synagogues, community centers and coffeehouses across the country.

In 2016, Beth was commissioned by the Women Of the Wall to compose a new setting for their egalitarian threefold benediction, which is now sung at WOW's monthly gatherings at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
Beth was selected by Forward Magazine as one of the top five "New Voices in Jewish Music".
Her song "City of Love/Ahavat Olam" was selected as a finalist for the Shalshelet New Jewish Music Festival.
And her setting of "Maoz Tzur" was used in Laura Bialis' documentary film "Refusenik."

Beth has four self-produced CDs to her credit, containing original Jewish folk-roots music and liturgical settings now in use at synagogues and camps across the country.

A graduate of Portland State University, she has over three decades of teaching experience in the fields of high school instrumental music, Judaic Studies and Hebrew.
She also creates ritual Judaica from recycled bicycle parts, and travel cajons (hand drums) from repurposed cigar boxes. Some of her Judaica is part of the permanent collection at the Yeshiva University museum.

Beth lives in Portland with her partner, writer and musicologist Liz Schwartz. She commutes everywhere locally by bicycle and has not owned a car since 1990.
