| Review of KlezMyriad in The Province (Vancouver) |
| Its third CD in five years, KlezMyriad is the most diverse and accomplished album yet for Tzimmes, a J3eish world-beat group based on Vancouver. It daringly begins with an 8 ½ minute masterpiece that melds an Isreaeli classic, Shdemati, with group leader Moshe Denburg's composition, River of Light. Among the sweetest cuts is the Yiddish tune Moyshele Mayn Fraynd sung by Myrna Rabinowitz, she of the golden pipes. This is a playful record with little nuggets between the songs, plus a Chipmunk-like chorus of "Oi yoi" if you let the CD run past the last cut. The marvelous album includes Klezmer music, Greek-flavoured melodies, Judeo-Spanish songs, and the Maoz Tsur hymn for the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah... |
