A unique recording of traditional Jewish liturgical music culled from 16th-19th century sources. MUSA ANTIQUA, a noted European ensemble, performs the vocal selections accompanied by a variety of early instruments including tabla, tabor, crwth (bowed lyre) bass recorder, lute, tarabuke, cornamuse, hurdy-gurdy and others.
Bobov, a tiny village in West Galicia, was the home of a remarkable Chassidic dynasty of rebbes, known not only for their personal magnetism but also for their great tradition of music. Recorded in 1962 with Velvel Pasternak`s Chassidic Chorale, this album is a heritage of authentic Nigunim once again available.
