Gerard Edery
“A cultural powerhouse”, GERARD EDERY, “juggles musical roles with almost surreal ease” (Seattle Jewish Transcript and The New York Jewish Week). Gerard was born in Casablanca and raised in Paris and New York City. Speaking several languages throughout his childhood, he absorbed a variety of musical traditions spanning three continents. Trained as a classical baritone at The Manhattan School of Music, he has sung more than thirty roles with opera companies around the United States. Mr. Edery works with renowned cantors Alberto Mizrahi and Aaron Bensoussan in his group, The Sons of Sepharad. He is a frequent guest cantorial soloist at synagogues and Jewish Community Centers throughout the United States and Canada. Considered one of the leading interpreters of Sephardic Song, he has been honored with the Sephardic Musical Heritage Award and has received a Meet the Composer grant for his original songs. His musical, Song of the Turtledove (based on Shir Hashirim), co-written with Noa Ain, was presented by Premieres, a festival of new works at Lincoln Center. Gerard Edery, a renowned soloist, also collaborates with world class artists including oud virtuoso, George Mgrdichian, renowned storyteller, Peninnah Schram, and is a featured performer in The Gerard Edery Ensemble and the Maseng/Edery Duo.

Gerard has been featured in major concert halls and festivals in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Far East, Israel, Morocco and Mexico. Notable engagements for Mr. Edery include performances at the United Nations in New York and the Palais des Nations in Geneva, The Smithsonian Institute, The Library of Congress, The Holocaust Museum, Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, The Cervantino International Festival in Mexico, the International Festival of Sacred Music in Morocco, and in New York City at Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, The Jewish Museum and The Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City, among others.

Mr. Edery is a prolific recording artist and has released ten CDs which are available on the Sefarad Records label. The titles include Amid the Jasmine, The Sons of Sepharad, Sing to the Eternal, Oigo (I Hear), Morena, Chansons d’Amour, Linda Amiga: Love Songs of the Sephardim and Renaissance Spain, The Minstrel and the Storyteller , Guitar Give Me Your Song, Opera Arias, and Romanzas Sefarditas. He has also penned “The Gerard Edery Sephardic Song Book” available through Sefarad Publishing and Tara Publications and will be releasing two new CDs this Spring/Summer 2006.
