Mare Winningham is one of America's most highly regarded performing artists. She has appeared on stage, on screen, and in over sixty movies for television. Her work has been honored by numerous awards including two Emmy Awards, six nominations, an Independent Spirit Award, a Golden Globe nomination, a best supporting actress ACADEMY AWARD nomination, two Screen Actor's Guild nominations, and a Peabody Award for Excellence in Television.

As a singer and musician, Ms. Winningham has three albums released and has written and performed her songs for audiences across America. REFUGE ROCK SUBLIME is her new album of country/bluegrass/Jewish/folk songs.

"I was in Arkansas filming a movie, when a bluegrass festival rolled into town and many of the performers were booked in the motel I was staying at", Winningham says. "I jumped into the party and played into the wee hours of the morning with the fiddlers and pickers, singing and trading songs. After several nights of the most beautiful and rousing musical free-for-alling, I found it hard to let go of the sounds of the mandolins and guitars, the sweet spiritual sing-a-longs we bonded over. So I got back to Los Angeles and I stayed in touch with the extraordinary musician Tim Crouch, who was the giant in our midst back in Arkansas. We hatched a plan to record an album of my original songs, as well as some gorgeous Hebrew folk songs, a sort of unlikely melding of country/Jewish music.

Tim put together a three-piece killer band, and I flew back to Arkansas to make what I think might be the first of its kind. These are songs for God and man, set to the mountain gospel sound I fell in love with back in Eureka Springs. I am inspired by the singers and players I had the privilege of hearing and jamming with, and I hope this record reflects my deep respect for those artists, as well as my love of Hebrew, Judaism, and the Bible."
