Meet Rabbi Joe Black, a vibrant force in today's contemporary Jewish music scene! A dynamic performer, lyrical composer, and accomplished musician, Rabbi Black has produced several critically acclaimed albums of Jewish music, a songbook and two videos. His latest release, Sabbatical, reflects Rabbi Black’s skillful guitar playing, his thoughtful original lyrics, and smooth, silky vocals. Leave A Little Bit Undone, his other adult album showcases 12 original songs based on biblical and liturgical texts. Original songs from Rabbi Black’s two children's recordings, Aleph Bet Boogie, and Everybody's Got A Little Music are widely sung in religious schools, Jewish summer camps and community centers, and at youth group events. Rabbi Black has received numerous honors for his performances and compositions. He was recognized by Moment Magazine as one of the top ten male performers in Contemporary American Jewish music, as well as one of the top ten children's performers in American Jewish music.
Rabbi Black serves as Senior Rabbi of Congregation Albert in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a position he assumed in August of 1996. Prior to this he was Assistant and then Associate Rabbi at Temple Israel in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from 1987-1996. He received his Bachelors degree in Education from Northwestern University in 1982, and his Masters degree and Rabbinic ordination from the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1987. Rabbi Black is a past president of the Minnesota Rabbinical Association. He served as co-chair of the Worship Committee of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations Central Conference of American Rabbis Joint Task Force on Religious Living. He has also served on the UAHC Youth Commission.

Since 1991, Rabbi Black has lectured and performed annually at the Coalition For Alternatives in Jewish Education (CAJE) Conference. He has served as faculty and guest artist at numerous national and regional biennial conventions of the Reform Movement. Rabbi Black has traveled extensively to congregations around the country to be the featured performing artist and scholar in residence.

Rabbi Black lives in Albuquerque with his wife, Sue and their children, Elana and Ethan.
