Diane Kaplan is a singer/songwriter and guitarist. She composes music to the words of Psalms (in Hebrew) to be sung in harmony voices or in rounds. Diane performs her music and leads choirs and workshops in Israel, North America and Europe.
Diane was born in NY and raised in Arizona. She made Aliya at age 23 searching for the meaning of her life as child of Holocaust survivors. Several years later, she moved with her growing family from Haifa to Yodefat, a small village in the Galilee where she still resides today.
Diane performed and recorded folk, rock, country, Irish and World music until a life changing event altered the course of her music completely. While accompanying her mother who was in a coma in her dying days, Diane discovered the Psalms in the book "The Jewish Way in Death and Mourning" by Maurice Lamm.
She also discovered the gift that music can bring to dying people while she sang for her mother as she passed on to the next world.

From that time on, Diane has been writing vocal music to the verses of Psalms. She recorded and produced two albums of Psalms music in Hebrew (2011 and 2015).

Diane was invited to Germany twice to lead vocal workshops of songs from the Jewish tradition in Hebrew and Yiddish. The singing of these songs brought up much pain carried by the second and third generations of both Jews and Germans trying to grasp what this shared history means to them today. Much healing was done through this singing on a personal and on a group level. Diane also performed three very successful solo performances in Germany.

After experiencing the tremendous effect that singing can have in healing the pain between people, Diane joined a group of Jews and Arabs looking for new ways of building bridges through music. Diane now leads music circles in an Arab village in the Galilee where people from all religions come together to create a new kind of dialogue. This music, sung in Hebrew, Arabic, and English, plants seeds of trust and openness.

When the first all-Arab Waldorf School was opened in the city of Shfaram, Diane joined them as the English teacher and worked with them for seven years. She developed a very close relationship with the teachers and students there. Of course music played a significant role in her teaching there as well.

Diane has performed her Psalms music in Israel, the US/ Canada, Germany and more recently given performances and workshops in Italy.

For many years Diane has been singing her prayer music to people in "end of life" situations in Home Hospice settings - either alone or with a small group. When there are no words left to speak, or perhaps words that can't be spoken - music, then can speak and reach to places that words are not able to penetrate.
