Marshall Portnoy
Cantor Marshall Portnoy is the Hazzan of Main Line Reform Temple in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, and a national Vice-President of the American Conference of Cantors. His two-volume series entitled The Art of Cantillation has brought the skill and the joy of reading Torah and Haftarah to tens of thousands throughout the globe, and regularly remains among the most popular volumes of the URJ Press. His musical works, published by Transcontinental Music Publications, are widely performed throughout the United States, and he is the recipient of frequent commissions.

A graduate of Yale, Cantor Portnoy was invested both by the Jewish Theological Seminary and the Hebrew Union College. He has also served on the boards of Federation Day Care of Greater Philadelphia and Reform Judaism Magazine. He teaches regularly at the Biennial Convention of the Union for Reform Judaism, and the Pararabbinic Program of the Hebrew Union College where he also adjudicates cantorial certification examinations each spring. He is co-editor of a planned new Reform clergy manual, and his latest compact disc, containing music of healing and renewal, will be released shortly.

Cantor Portnoy and his wife, Dr. Jane Portnoy, make their home in Penn Valley, just west of Philadelphia. Dr. Portnoy is on the faculty of the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania. Their daughter Julie is an undergraduate at the University of Oregon in Eugene, and their son Michael attends high school.
