Golden State Klezmers
Zinovy Goro (clarinet) is one of the leading Klezmer clarinetists on the West Coast. A native of Kiev, Ukraine (then USSR), Mr. Goro earned his Masters of Fine Arts in Performance and Composition at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in that city (1970) and furthered his training in the U.S. at the Trebas Institute of Recording Arts in Los Angeles.

Prior to his coming to the US in 1979, Mr. Goro had a prestigious career as Principal Clarinetist of the State Orchestra of the Radio and Television Orchestra in Kiev for 10 years. During that time, he was also Music Director of the Ukrainian Union's Jazz Orchestra.

Additionally, he composed the music for eight full-length documentary films between 1972-78 (International Award "For the Best Music Determination") and published a collection of "Pieces for Ensemble of Clarinets". For 12 years he also taught at the city's Special Music School for Gifted Children.

After arriving in Los Angeles, he was amazed to discover a great demand for Klezmer music, a music forbidden by communist authorities in the Ukraine. The first recordings that Zinovy heard were those of the renowned clarinetist Giora Feidman. Zinovy was inspired both by Giora's technique and artistry and, by request of the Jewish Family Service, quickly formed a group to play in Los Angeles' 2nd annual Russian-Jewish Newcomers' Festival in 1980. That group became the Golden State Klezmers (1999 LA Weekly Theater Award for Best Original Music) and since then, they appeared in more than 500 concert performances, recorded 3 albums, participated in many recordings for commercial albums, movies, and commercials.

In 1986 Mr. Goro took a leading part in the "Ghetto" production in the Mark Taper Forum Theater, played in many theater productions - "Shlemiel the First","Kabbalah", "The Bride and The Brothel", "Shulamis", "Simcha","Countess Maritza", and others.

Since March 1994 he has been busy as the Principal Clarinetist and frequent Klezmer soloist with the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony. As an Arranger and Music Copyist he works at Universal Studios Music Preparations Department.

Since 1989, his name has been listed in Marquis's "Who's Who in Entertainment".
