oySongs - Love Jewish Music

Larry Karol
Rabbi Larry Karol is a talented song-writer and performer with a unique Jewish perspective which enhances his music with a depth of passion that speaks directly to the soul. Jewish music has been a part of Larry's life since he first heard his parents sing in their Temple choir as a child in Kansas City, Missouri. Today, he blends his musical talent and spirituality in original songs of worship and faith. Larry is the rabbi at Temple Beth-El of Las Cruces, New Mexico, after serving at at Temple Israel in Dover, New Hampshire in 2006-2011 and at Temple Beth Sholom in Topeka, Kansas in 1984-2006. Larry has released two CD recordings, "Two are Better Than One" (produced by Rick Recht and Darrell McClanahan) and "A New Beginning" (produced by Scott Leader) and has even more music to share online and live! "One Light Above: The Larry Karol Songbook" was released in October, 2007.

When interviewed by the Dover Community News in 2006, Larry reflected on how music is part of his rabbinate and his life: "My music is about hope, faith, community and creating understanding between various religious groups....Song allows us to express emotion through the interplay of word and...music, even the chords and harmony; it's a much richer way to create a feeling of illustrating a lesson."

Larry lives in Las Cruces, NM with his wife, Rhonda, who holds a master's degree in Jewish communal service. Their son, Adam, graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts in 2008. Adam, an aspiring R&B/Soul singer/songwriter, sang and played keyboard on both of Larry's CDs.
